Why Scalp Micro Pigmentation?

Scalp micro-pigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that involves depositing pigments into the scalp to create the appearance of a closely shaved head or a denser hairline. It is a popular option for both men and women with hair loss due to several reasons:

Natural and realistic results
SMP replicates the appearance of real hair follicles, creating a natural and realistic look. It can mimic the appearance of a closely shaved head or add density to thinning areas, providing a more youthful and fuller hairline.
Non-invasive
Unlike hair transplant surgeries or other invasive procedures, SMP is a non-invasive solution. It does not involve surgical incisions or the use of medications, making it a safer and less risky option.
Versatility
SMP can be customized to suit each individual's specific needs and desired style. It can be used to address various types of hair loss, including receding hairlines, pattern baldness, thinning hair, and even complete baldness.
Quick and efficient
The SMP procedure can typically be completed in a few sessions, with each session lasting a few hours. Compared to other hair restoration methods, such as hair transplants that may require multiple surgeries and longer recovery periods, SMP offers a relatively quick and efficient solution.
Low maintenance
Once the SMP treatment is complete, it requires minimal maintenance. The pigments are semi-permanent and can fade over time, but touch-up sessions can be done to maintain the desired appearance. There is no need for extensive post-treatment care or special products.
Camouflage and confidence
SMP can effectively camouflage the appearance of baldness or thinning hair, boosting self-confidence and self-esteem. It can help individuals feel more comfortable with their appearance and provide a sense of restored hair density.

About the Artist

As a licensed barber and owner of Saint and Heathen Barbershop, Danny Usher, often found his clients concerned about their receding hairlines. He was right there with them, as he had been thinning since he was nineteen years old himself.

Most of his clients were in agreement that traditional hair loss solutions like Minoxidil and Finasteride either didn’t work well or had really unpleasant side effects. Hair fibre was a good camouflage but messy and not ideal when you essentially live in the rain forest that is Vancouver Island. Danny was often asked about hair transplant surgeries by his clientele which he didn’t know much about. Interested himself, he did a deep dive into the industry to truly understand the ins and outs of hair transplants. Though, the results were amazing, it didn’t take long to realize that unless someone was spending $35000 for a top notch hair transplant surgery- the results were going to be subpar, terrible or all fall out after a few years anyways. Moreover, the recovery period of hair transplants was awful to say the least. It was during this delving into the hair transplant industry that he discovered SMP (Micro Scalp Pigmentation) Why is it not called MSP? We don’t know either- just go with it! He was blown away by the before and after photos of the SMP clientele and decided to get it himself. A few weeks later, he had a dermatologist and several barber friends look his head over and not be able to tell at first that it was not natural. And with that, he decided to study to become an SMP artist.

A short time after, he was training under renown Canadian SMP master, Jenn Fisk and eventually became a licensed SMP artist in Canada.

Thrilled to introduce SMP to the North Island, Danny has started a SMP studio directly behind Extreme Ends Salon in downtown Courtenay. The Saint and Heathen Studio can be accessed through the alley between Extreme Ends and The Grove Health and Wellness.
